If you’ve recently received an email or letter from Companies House about identity verification, you’re not alone. These communications relate to an important legal change coming into effect under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.

From autumn 2025, all company directors and persons with significant control (PSCs) will be legally required to verify their identity in order to continue acting in those roles. This is part of a government initiative to help tackle economic crime and increase transparency in UK company structures.

We’re Ready to Help – We’re Now an ACSP

We’re pleased to confirm that Childminder Accountancy Services Ltd is now officially registered as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) with Companies House.

This means we’ll be offering identity verification services to our limited company clients when the new rules come into force. We’ll take care of the process using a secure third-party verification tool, keeping everything as straightforward as possible for you.

What Is Identity Verification?

Identity verification is a new mandatory process designed to confirm the identity of:

  • All directors of UK limited companies (including directors based overseas)
  • All persons with significant control (PSCs), typically those with more than 25% ownership or voting rights

You will be able to verify your identity in one of three ways:

  • Online via GOV.UK One Login (with appropriate ID documents)
  • In person at selected Post Office branches
  • Through a registered ACSP like ourselves

Once verified, Companies House will issue you a personal verification code. This is unique to you and will be needed to link your verified identity to your company roles.

What Happens If You Don’t Comply?

If identity verification is not completed:

  • You won’t be able to file confirmation statements or other company documents
  • You could face financial penalties
  • You may be barred from acting as a company director
  • You may not be permitted to form new companies

What You Should Do Now

  • Don’t ignore any letters or emails from Companies House
  • Check that your personal information on the company register is accurate (particularly your name and date of birth)
  • Be aware that identity verification becomes mandatory from autumn 2025

We’ll be in touch with all our limited company clients in good time to complete the process. As we are already a registered ACSP, you can rely on us to guide you through it with minimal hassle.

If you have any questions or concerns about how this affects you, feel free to get in touch.
